The Essential Advent Calendar: December 24 – Star2 Is Counting Down The Days Until Christmas With ‘December’

Star2 is counting down the days until Christmas with his late autumn lament, ‘December’.

Being a single person is all well and good when the weather is warm and you can enjoy yourself, doing activities alone. But increasingly the holiday season has focused on aspects that require more than one person to enjoy; exchanging gifts, baking for each other, even decorating the house encourages the need for another person to see it. The cooler weather also sharpens our focus on pairing up with someone to snuggle with – especially, as hip-hop and R&B vocalist Star2 points out in his latest single, it gets pretty chilly at night.

Star2 is an expert storyteller with a knack for exploring romantic relationships in three-minute pop and rap songs, so it should come as no surprise that he’s got this season covered too. His latest single, ‘December’, is both relatable and thoroughly believable. The girl he met in September has suddenly made herself scarce in November; he wasn’t prepared for this year’s “cuffing season” to be like this – and he lets his feelings be known in ‘December’, with all the sincerity and eloquence he’s become known for.

Likewise, the music video for ‘December’ doesn’t mess around. We see Star2 is in a beautiful house, surrounded by markers of a flashy lifestyle, but the girl he wants isn’t anywhere to be seen. He flashes back in his memory to the summer, and we are shown that the girl of his dreams isn’t just gorgeous, but she’s also got a real rapport with him. They stroll on the boardwalk together, play games together, the affection is genuine. But now, it’s almost Christmas; where is she? Star2 marks off each day on his wall calendar with an X, and as summer turns to autumn, we see his patience is rewarded.
