We recently had a chat with Celeste Marie Wilson, and got all the behind the scenes information about ‘Jesus, Tequila, and Whiskey‘.
How did ‘Jesus, Tequila, and Whiskey’ come together?
It took me about 15 minutes and a prayer to write. It was inspired by a real night– though I wasn’t the protagonist of the events taking place. My friend and I watched it happed, and that little songwriter spark was going off.
What inspired the story?
A real night in a real honky tonk with real people acting like some real heathens. It looked like a country song that night, and it sounded like one too.
Why did you use humour to talk about hypocrisy?
Hypocrisy is naturally humorous. It is a subversion of expectations and a divergence between actions and words.
What was your favourite part of making the video?
One of my many favourite parts of filming was getting to pick out outfits. I love a good silk dress, and yellow makes. everything cuter.Â
Why was a honky-tonk the right setting?
It’s where it really happened. Nothing is louder than the truth.
What did you think of the final church scene?
It tied the message full circle. He’s not sorry, and we know next Saturday, the video will loop all over again.
What do you hope people feel when they hear the song?
I hope this song is like an onion. I hope some people can just enjoy it as a party song, but for those who love deeper stories, I want those listeners to explore the hypocrisy people indulge in when it comes to religion.
What can fans expect from you next?
My upcoming album, ‘Southern American Princess’, will include released songs such as, ‘Jesus, Tequila, and Whiskey’, ‘Marie’, ‘Willow’, and ‘What Else Could I Need’. Plus, six songs that are currently unreleased.
