We published an interview with SevvTheArtist not long ago, and now we bring to you her latest single, ‘BLU’.
Upcoming singer-songwriter, SevvTheArtist, knows R&B inside and out, and knows how to do it just right. Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, she was raised on a musical diet of soul and jazz, and grew up toying with saxophone and trombone, falling in love with their intoxicating sound. From there she tried her hand at performing live, and discovered just how much she enjoyed the energetic flow of music. From there she got into R&B, and she released her debut EP, ‘Pre-K’, in 2020, to great acclaim. Since then her releases have found her featured on R&B radio, as well as TIDAL’s Rising R&B playlist, Sirius XM’s Heart & Soul, BET Soul and Music Choice R&B Soul. Now Sevv is ready and raring to claim her place in the R&B domain – and we’re right there cheering her on.
SevvTheArtist has a slew of singles lined up for release, and the first of these is the slow-jam, ‘BLU’. Over a steady rhythm of drums and bass, SevvTheArtist paints with words the story of of a couple whose relationship is rocking on the waves of emotional uncertainty. The melody serves as a mimic to the lyrics, which vacillate between engaged attraction to absolute indifference, and throughout it all, Sevv keeps her cool, and maintains the balance between cool confidence, and warm, enticing allure.
The music video for ‘BLU’, directed by IAMDZHN and J. Inez, takes the viewer on a journey through vibey low-lit scenes of house parties and strip clubs, and giving us a glimpse into Sevv’s “blue-heart”. We follow both women, as they step out on their partners, with layers of temptation and lust intersecting like lasagne, the clip using flashbacks to reveal the most pivotal moments. It ends with one of the women perhaps realising the game she’s been playing hasn’t been such a wise idea after all. You can check it all out in the video below, and find out more about SevvTheArtist and her music online on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and Spotify.
