OMD Are Back For The First Time In Over Half A Decade

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark have announced their first full-length project since 2017’s ‘The Punishment of Luxury’ – the October 2023 release of ‘Bauhaus Staircase’. Andy McCluskey’s internationally renowned four-man crew have had a re-rise to prominence in the last decade, with the aforementioned 2017 release of ‘The Punishment of Luxury’ topping the UK’s Independent Chart. Now, six years later, ‘Bauhaus Staircase’ is set to be their most anticipated release since the group’s 2010 reunion album, ‘History of Modern’.

Despite its individual members being around for nearly five decades, OMD as a group have not released nearly as much music as other groups of their calibre. Still, fourteen albums is nothing to scoff at, and OMD’s music pioneered the way for dozens of artists’ styles to take shape, influencing most of the new wave era musicians inside and outside of electronic music. Even forty years after their debut, the legendary group continue to influence others, and have played a critical role in the revival of synth-pop – something they continue to do so with ‘Bauhaus Staircase’, their latest synth-pop showing.

Another album named after an art form, ‘Bauhaus Staircase’ is about as artistically brilliant as the German art school which it got its name from. Featuring a wide array of tracks and topics such as the ballad of ‘Anthropocene’, the aptly named protest song ‘Kleptocracy’ and closing on the equally aptly named calming, reflective mix ‘Healing’, the new album acts as a window into the future, where McCluskey and the rest of the band share their views on what the future will be like. OMD’s latest single for the album, the title track ‘Bauhaus Staircase’, is available now to watch and listen to down below.
