Brandon Sandefur has always seen country music as the ultimate guiding path throughout his life. Growing up in Houston, he was formerly an All-Conference linebacker, and all the while he has spent writing, performing, and navigating the realities that come with building a life around music, with all its ups and downs. He started out on the Texas dance hall circuit with ‘A Little Bit of Texas’, before moving to Nashville in 1996, where he was quickly signed. This led to his debut album, ‘Walking Backwards’, which produced two GAC Top 10 singles, and a title track that went on to become an international line-dance favourite, garnering 80,000 downloads across the United States, Europe and Asia. Sandefur was from that moment a Nashville regular, sharing stages with legends like Waylon Jennings, George Jones, and Merle Haggard, while performing at a multitude of venues. But, after 23 years in Nashville, he stepped away from its distractions, ultimately gaining the clarity he needed to realign himself with a dream that might have otherwise slipped away.
Brandon Sandefur is now reconnecting with his passion, using his music as a platform to reach beyond himself. Songwriting is just one factor however, of a larger plan that will see him make a lasting impact on the communities he cares about most, with proceeds from his music supporting inspiring nonprofit organisations, including AHERO and Red Flamingo, benefiting veterans, first responders, and suicide awareness efforts. Brandon Sandefur is already back in the studio, recording new material for a full EP, and standing solidly on his own two feet, championing the USA and her vibrant people.
New single, ‘Lying Down’, sees Sandefur make a triumphant return with a renewed sense of purpose fueling his creative fire. The song is a rallying cry, centred on resilience, conviction, and the idea that Americans are stronger moving forward together than against each other. Bolstered by his rich, seamless fusion of modern and traditional country influences, the track reflects the personal and cultural weight he’s wrestled with over the past year.
Speaking of ‘Lying Down’, Sandefur affirms, “It’s an American song. Not left or right”. He envelopes his listeners in a refreshing down-south atmosphere, buoyed up by driving acoustics, twanging melodies, and a sturdy surge of rebellion, as he pays tribute to his homeland. Sandefur encourages all Americans with gruff resolve, to “work together, join hands, figure it out, and move forward”.
The music video for ‘Lying Down’ takes viewers to Sandefur’s new home of Pensacola, Florida, a coastal town on the Gulf of Mexico. Collaborating with director and Pensacola native Flick Wiltshire, the feelings of possibility and raw emotions of the song are channeled throughout the clip, keeping the focus set on Sandefur’s palpable passion and delivery, rather than any political imagery that might divide. Visiting Pensacola’s Veterans Memorial Park, Sandefur pays homage to those who fought for America’s freedoms while delivering the song with clear-eyed conviction. Rather than empty patriotism or political theatre, ‘Lying Down’ is a bold statement about protecting the place and principles he believes in, and a clarion call for others to do the same.
