Ian Ward continues to evolve creatively with his latest single, ‘You Can Do Better’. The catchy track and music video come after his appearance in March on Season 23 of American Idol.
With his natural charm, charisma, and authenticity, as well as bucketloads of talent, Ian Ward is a step above most pop musicians. The artist has received well earned acclaim from a number of media outlets, including Entertainment Weekly, who praised his “powerful belt and soulful voice”. His catalogue includes songs ranging from classic rock, to stripped back acoustic ballads, and all the while being relevant to a wide listener base. Latest single, ‘You Can Do Better’, falls somewhere between classic rock and stripped back acoustic; it has a 60s/70s sound that is irresistible and will echo in the memory long after the final note.
With his music, Ian Ward tells a story that’s been drawn from his own experiences, the result being extremely resonant, and evocatively authentic songs. He explores themes of love, hope, and transformation, and with this new track he takes hold of the tension between the life people aspire to, and that reality they eventually settle for. He serves as both guide and motivator along the way – he’s been there, done that, and knows how it feels to get bogged down while searching for life’s purpose. Ian says about ‘You Can Do Better’,
“I’ve had times in my life where I’ve felt stuck. The song is all about realizing that spark inside you, the part that tells you to keep going, even when it feels like things aren’t clicking.”
One such way Ian Ward has been chasing his dreams was his experience with American Idol. He impressed the judges in his audition for Season 23 back in March, which meant he secured a coveted “Golden Ticket” To Hollywood – the latest step on his journey to widespread recognition.
“Being on American Idol this season is a huge moment for me,” says Ian. “It’s taught me a lot about perseverance and being brave enough to put my dreams out there.”
With his soulful vocals, Ian Ward delivers a poignant message, that we can’t change anything with “just words” – rather, we need to take action in order to make true change happen. We need to step forward with determination with our careers, relationships, and so forth. There is always room to be better.
Ian adds,
“The heart of this song is about showing up for yourself, doing the work, and trusting that every little step counts,” he says. “Playing a showcase at SXSW last month was a chance to share my music with so many amazing people, and it felt like a sign that no matter where you start, there’s always room to push further, reach higher, and aim for something greater”.
The music video for ‘You Can Do Better’, sees Ian return to his frequent collaborator, Mutual Street Entertainment. We see the clip’s protagonist as she clicks through TV channels, mindlessly uninvolved until she sees Ian. Instantly she is transported into a world of light and colour, where Ian urges her to get up and take control of her life. It’s a striking visual, and a reminder that we all have the power to change and do better, if only we put our mind to it. Ian Ward pushes his audience to turn off the TV (or social media etc) and chase those things that truly matter. This new track, and his previous release, ‘One Shot‘, are exciting glimpses into his upcoming EP, and we can’t wait to see what else Ian Ward has to offer.
