Secret Wish Speak To Essentially Pop About Their Music, Future Plans, And ‘Melody Of The Music Man’

Belgian duo Secret Wish recently released the video for ‘Melody Of The Music Man‘, which had been written by DJ and producer Kurt Vervaet some time ago. We spoke to Kurt about the track, and future plans for Secret Wish.

Were there specific experiences or emotions that influenced the writing and production process?

Actually, I wrote “Melody Of The Music Man” back in 2003 which was inspired by “Children” from Robert Miles. It came to my attention at the time that instrumental music could also be a good opener for a show.

I was in the early stages of my musical creations then, where some experimenting was going on. The original version of this song ended up in the drawer for years, partly because it was not signed by a record label and there was hardly any promotion involved.

As the musical styles evolved so much, I got the idea to rework “Melody Of The Music Man”. And look now, it is finally getting the attention it deserves.

What message or sensation were you aiming to convey through “Melody Of The Music Man”?

“Melody Of The Music Man” is a feel-good song. That is also how our outlook on life is, no matter what. Everyone needs something to pull themselves up by. I think this song reflects that beautifully.

I hope the audience can enjoy this song and the video without any worries. Together with my team, we tried to make it visually appealing. Melody Of The Music Man is written with a wink to a potent blend of nostalgic dance music elements. The handhold the audience will have from this will of course be different for everyone.

What inspired the visual storytelling for “Melody Of The Music Man”?

The idea was to accentuate the playing keyboard with beautiful ladies that complement the whole. That way we could create a striking music video that would attract the viewers.

Did any unexpected challenges or highlights arise during the production process?

The most challenging part was to get the keyboard shots filmed well. During the shooting day, there was a strong wind, which kept playing through the hair and blowing up the clothes.

The models, on the other hand, were already advantaged in that.

They were already wearing almost nothing.

What techniques or visuals did you use to convey the energy of “Melody Of The Music Man”?

The music video is directed by a big name in the film industry. Filmed and edited by Brendan Bishop, who has credits on his name for blockbusters such as The World Is Not Enough (James Bond) and The Wolfman. So, the entire music video is his credit.

How do you approach the creative process when crafting songs and conceptualizing music videos?

We are so blessed that Brendan Bishop crossed our path. His fresh ideas made the music video ‘what it is. To get this end result, he did so much groundbreaking work, from scouting locations to finding the right models. The idea was to create a striking music video that would attract the viewers. This collaboration will certainly be a continuation.

“Melody Of The Music Man” was also masterfully crafted and expertly mixed and mastered by Grammy-nominated Benny Steele, ensuring a polished and exhilarating listening experience.

What benchmarks or achievements hold the most significance to you in your artistic journey?

Secret Wish has always aimed to expand its audience across borders and express its music to an international audience. Our songs have earned airtime in several countries across Europe and Asia, landing on charts such as DDK and Cool Cuts, reached Music Week in the UK, and have been nominated for MMA and HDT awards in the genres of house, dance, and trance.

We have found out that’s the direction to continue. And we will of course go for the extra mile. Several collaborations become reality whereof we always thought it wouldn’t be possible for us.

Do you plan to continue exploring similar themes or venture into new artistic territories?

In terms of working with bikini models, this will only be continued if the song calls for it. Of course, not every song lends itself to this. The collaboration with Brendan will certainly get a continuation for future songs.
