Gene Hendricks is a dynamic veteran of the music industry, whose roots run deep in the rich tradition of Black Gospel Music. Better known as GHJ Music, he was born into the vibrant atmosphere of a faith based world, and discovered his passion for music at a young age, which saw him initially channelling it into singing gospel. Since then, and driven by a desire to make a positive difference in the world, Hendricks has made it his mission to promote inclusivity and togetherness. Using the name GHJ Music, he blends elements of gospel, pop and world music into seamless and emotive sounds, which resonate with all audiences.
For ‘Welcome Here’, GHJ has collaborated with artist and songwriter Scott Free, to reimagine the track for a wider audience. Deftly produced by GHJ and executive production from Michael Foley, the instrumental track was combined with Free’s moving lyrics, transforming it into an anthem with wide-ranging appeal. ‘Welcome Here’ shines as a beacon of hope in a world that is often marked by division and exclusion, and its rallying cry of “In an atmosphere often marked by division and exclusion, “Welcome Here” stands as a beacon of hope, “Everyone is welcome here” invites us all to join in the celebration.
The accompanying music video to ‘Welcome Here’ was expertly crafted by New York City director and choreographer LaQuet Sharnell Pringle, in conjunction with The Seed Collective, a film and media production company which focuses on creating compelling and inclusive narratives by artists, for artists.
The clip has as its focus a group of dancers, representative of a range of backgrounds and cultures. With graceful and fluid movements, they vibrantly share an energy that serves as a metaphor for the harmony that can come from people co-existing in a community, despite their backgrounds, different races, ethnicities, and traditions. ‘Welcome Here’ taps into the zeitgeist, and serves as a remedy for healing in these troubled times.
