North Carolina artist Morgan Hudson has been making a name for herself as a part of the soulful blues rock, rhythm, and grooves quartet, MoCo (short for Morgan and Company). Now she’s branching out on her own, and new song, ‘Lonely Together’, featuring Lonnie Britton, as well as its music video, should see her find even more success as a solo artist.
Out of Greenville, North Carolina, Morgan Hudson has had music running through her veins all her life, picking up her first guitar at the age of 11, when she discovered the power and energy of rock and roll. From there she moved into songwriting and singing, finding even more ways to express herself through music.
With ‘Lonely Together’, a laid back drawl of a track, Hudson matches her vocals with Britton; her emotive, yet smooth voice, the perfect partner to his baritone, with its earnest and emphatic southern drawling baritone.
‘Lonely Together’ tells the story of not being prepared to spend life alone; the struggles, and sometimes triumphs when coming face to face with the prospect of loneliness – something many people are finding out everyday. The pair reach an agreement in the song that if they are going to be lonely anyway, they may as well be lonely together. The music video provides a showcase for the charm and allure of rural North Carolina, and the clip mirrors the song’s narrative, as the two characters, played by Morgan and Lonnie, find their lives are intertwined.
The pair are travelling along their own journeys through loneliness, and the camera follows their individual paths. Morgan’s character channels her feelings into creativity, while Lonnie’s instead sinks into the pits of despair, with his only solace to be found in a bottle. ‘Lonely Together’ is deeply relatable, and invites the listener to contemplate their own lives.
