Opening with a great drum beat to set the rhythm, ‘Forgiveness’, from Rich Wyman and Lisa Needham is a rollicking good tune.
The drums are soon joined by a thrilling bass, piano and organ, harmonious horns, and electric guitar – all giving it their all. That’s all even before Rich starts singing, supported by Lisa’s gorgeous harmonies.
Rich Wyman’s sound is more growl than anything else, but it’s still appealing as all heck, and long term fans of this pair will know they’re in for a great and unforgettable track.
The artists aren’t newcomers to the music world, by any means; Rich has brought his singing and piano playing to collaborations with Eddie Van Halen, and performances with the Goo Goo Dolls, among others, and he has also taken home 10 ASCAP awards for his songwriting.
Lisa meanwhile demonstrates her range and flexibility – whether it be singing folk, jazz, or rock’n’roll. By themselves, Wyman and Needham are incredible artists. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with.
They’re a pair not just in the studio, but also in life, and this not only helps with their music performance, but also gives some great subject matter to mine for their tracks. ‘Forgiveness’ is essentially a letter of apology from a husband to a wife, and the duo manage to evoke every single emotion possible from the song.
Their closeness is also seen in the music video for the song too. Shot by Bryce Johnson, we’re shown shown Wyman and Needham guiding a band of musicians through a performance, as well as them in isolation. Wyman delivers his heartfelt plea to Needham, who finds it impossible to resist forgiving him, and together we begin to understand the true power of this relationship.
