Have you ever borrowed someone else’s clothes and realised it fits you better than your own? Whether or not it’s true, it certainly feels like it! Jasmine Crowe knows the feeling too, and she shares it in her new single and music video, ‘The Shirt Song’.
When it’s your partner’s shirt, and it’s got their smell still attached to it – it can be profoundly intimate; you take on that aroma by wearing it, and effectively, feel closer to them – at least that’s what they say. Plenty of songs have been written about the boyfriend shirt, but Jasmine Crowe’s take on the theme imbues it with a confidence not seen before.
Out of Encino, California, Jasmine Crowe has the ability to capture the warmth, longing, and flashes of desire that leap out of our memory when wearing our partner’s clothing – it’s so much more than just a comfort thing.
‘The Shirt Song’ takes that warmth and pairs it with gorgeous violins, slinky backing vocals, and a dance beat that will get you grooving. Jasmine’s voice is stunning, drawing the listener in with her conversational style, teasing us with snippets of her personality, so much so that we feel we know her intimately ourselves by the end of the song.
The music video for ‘The Shirt Song’, directed by Jeremy Eichenbaum (his eighth video for Jasmine) captures her distinctive style, a mix of playfulness, sex appeal, and mischievousness. Provocative shots, like Jasmine eating a banana, or casually letting the shirt fall off her shoulders, are blended with fun scenes of her dancing in front of a full length mirror, playing with a beautiful white dog, and losing herself in the music of her violin; it’s a great mix and works well, but there’s a twist in the tale – we won’t spoiler it for you but make sure you watch all the way to the end!
