Ash Gray From Amalgaband Speaks To Us About New Single, ‘Rock’n’Roll Radio Xmas’

We wrote yesterday about Amalgaband’s Christmas release, ‘Rock’n’Roll Radio Xmas‘, now their frontman, Ash Gray, answers some of our burning questions!

Christmas songs have a grand history here in the UK, and yours certainly sounds like it pays homage to two of the greats – ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ from Slade, and Wizzard’s ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ – was that intentional or a happy accident?

The Song started with just a cracking guitar riff that already screamed for a glammy treatment. We wanted to make it a Christmas song, so it naturally fell in line with Slade and the Wizzard song in that genre.

You’re all artists in your own right, whether it be as solo performers or other bands. Tell us how Amalgaband came about, and will there be other releases?

With not much to do and nowhere to go during one of the lockdowns before Christmas we just put our collective energy together to write a Christmas song. The band formed around the release which led to more seasonal songwriting to sort of create themes for each holiday.

What’s your favourite Christmas memory, and why? What are your plans for this year?

Amalgaband’s favorite memory of Christmas is collaborating for lockdown jams, and we plan to write a New Year’s song this 2023.

Who or what inspires you most in life? What about your musical inspirations?

Great Music inspires us the most. Musical inspirations are too numerous to list but everything from Bach to Bowie, Louis Armstrong to ABBA.

What question do you wish someone would ask you in an interview, but nobody ever does? And what’s the answer to that question?
