‘Champagne Attitude (Rap-Titude Mix)’ is the new single from Netherlands based artist, Amaru. The song was released at the end of December, and comes with a video, which came out on 3 January.
A singer-songwriter, and trained actor, Amaru is originally from Suriname, in South America, and moved to The Netherlands in 1991. He was inspired to take acting lessons while watching his favourite actor, Denzel Washington, and studied in both Los Angeles and Amsterdam, amassing a considerable acting resumé in film, television, and commercials, as well as print ads and voice over work. Still, at the back of his mind, music was calling to him, and finally he succumbed.
In 2007 Amaru travelled to Chicago, where he worked on an EP which saw the release of his debut single, ‘Put Your Hands Up,’ and accompanying video, the following year. He kept acting, but all the while music tugged at him, and he returned to the studio in August 2014, where he recorded the single, ‘I’m The One You Need’, released in January 2015, on his own label, Amaru Music. The synth driven club track came out as a double-A side, with “Radio Edit’ and ‘Spanglish Mix’, an homage to his South American origins. He followed this up with ‘The One’, released in November 2015, which he describes as an “ode to love”, with the video a tribute to the 80s.
Amaru’s latest single, ‘Champagne Attitude (Rap-Titude Mix)’ is a remix of his track, ‘Champagne Attitude’, giving the original a new arrangement and lyrics.
The track is takes the man’s view of adultery: the experience gone through and how it’s dealt with. Amaru spits out the lyrics with venom and conviction. Sonically it’s a catchy and upbeat; there’s a slightly eastern rhythm to it, and the brightly coloured video focuses on Amaru, with some clever additions such as the bottle of Möet & Chandon champagne, and shots of his single, on vinyl.
‘Champagne Attitude (Rap-Titude Mix)’ is one of those songs you can’t help but play on repeat. Although far from feel-good lyrically, it’s nonetheless upbeat and very catchy, with Amaru’s vocal style pleasing to the ear and very enjoyable. The Rap-Titude Mix is a non-album track, while the original ‘Champagne Attitude’ features on his album of the same name.
