First released in 2011, for the film ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1’, Christina Perri’s song, ‘A Thousand Years’ has long been on the soundtrack of lovers all over the world. It’s also a favourite of John Grimes, one half of Irish duo Jedward, who has now released a gorgeously emotional acoustic cover of the song.
Originally from their 2002 album, ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’, and featuring on the soundtrack for the film, ‘Wicker Park’, as well as a number of tv shows, Coldplay’s song, ‘The Scientist’, is well-known, and has been covered over the years by many people, including Miley Cyrus, the cast of ‘Glee’, and even Willie Nelson.
In yet another incredible acoustic guitar cover, John Grimes of Jedward has tackled a Harry Styles’ song, ‘Cherry’. The original, which was co-written by Styles and his frequent collaborator, Tyler Johnson, along with Jeff Bhasker, Kid Tycoon, and Sammy Witte, does not include the song title in the lyrics. In John’s version however, he has added a bridge which amends this.
Lockdown seems to be agreeing with Jedward, who are using the period to stimulate their creativity while they are in isolation in Los Angeles. For the second time this week, John has released a video of himself singing and playing guitar, and also for the second time, it’s a song by a former One Direction member – this time ‘Falling’, by Harry Styles, which was released earlier this year.
We were contacted by Carolyn Miller the other day telling us about the cover she’d made with Mikel James. It’s a beautiful acoustic mashup of Taylor Swift’s song, ‘Wildest Dreams’, sung by Carolyn, and Justin Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean’ (sung by Mikel), while standing on a New York street. The duo are accompanied by Alex Desalvo on guitar, and Justin Scheidling, on Cajon box drum.
