Nuke The Soup Tap Into The Different Sides Of The Human Experience With ‘Lost On You’

Taken from their latest album, ‘Dancing On The Edge’, Nuke The Soup’s new single, ‘Lost On You’, taps into those life experiences we can all relate to.

Brought to life by Grammy-winning producer Kevin Killen, known for his work with U2, Peter Gabriel, and Elvis Costello, alongside long-time Bowie collaborator, Gerry “Spooky Ghost” Leonard, ‘Dancing On The Edge’ is possibly Nuke The Soup’s most poignant album release yet. The Baltimore-based project, headed by Mark Davison, is able to bring straight from the heart those feelings of knowing how to love, and what it means – as well as to lose, to hope, and to dream.

‘Lost On You’ brings those feelings to the forefront, as it examines how people decide to totally bare their souls to one another, when they’re completely enveloped in love. But it’s fragile, and when communication falters, what was perfect can quickly feel like torture. With delicate, acoustic guitar, Davison tells of the struggle of a lover who’s just trying to keep it all together, as his relationship teeters on the precipice. He has no idea where it all went wrong, where the connection became misunderstanding; all the tension and detachment, closing in on him, is palpable, as he’s left to wonder whether he is still on the same wavelength as his lover. He’s unsure if it’s already too late to salvage what they once had – and she’s having the same thoughts.

Soon enough, with the shake of a tambourine, and bright synths, it’s clear that it’s not all bad news, because they’re fighting to hold on. Love will find a way.

Shot in Aspen, Colorado, the music video for ‘Lost On You’ is dreamlike in its beauty with the seemingly endless rolling hills, groves of aspen, for which the area is named, and open skies. Aspen local, Danny Brown, who directed the clip, manages to transform the song into real life, as we see Davison, at first with his feet firmly planted on the ground, soon be lifted into the clouds, where he is able to escape to a place where the form of a mysterious woman lingers in every corner of his mind. While the changing seasons underscore the fact of their time slipping away, Davison never once strays far from his guitar, or the truth of what he feels.
