Ron Brunk Keeps The Mystery Alive With ‘Mr. Hank’

Open the dictionary to “prolific” and you’ll see a photo of Ron Brunk. With 37 albums under his belt, he’s certainly the very definition of the word, and there’s no chance he’s about to stop any time soon. But he’s also adept at keeping his listeners on their toes, and with his latest single, ‘Mr Hank’, Brunk leaves us wondering who it is he’s singing about.

While the animated music video for ‘Mr Hank’ suggests that the song is about Brunk’s beloved felines, it’s just as likely it’s about a friend, or a neighbour, or even Hank Williams.

It’s probably about his cat though.

With a slowly played guitar and percussive elements that gently lull the listener, we are taken on a psychedelic journey that’s made even trippier while watching the video. Cats, fish, woodlands, and mountains, are all brightly coloured and verging on the ethereal. Brunk’s vocals are as alluring and dreamy as always, shrouded in mystery, doing his very best Bob Dylan impression, as well as some not too subtle nods to Yusuf Cat Stevens.
