Nuke The Soup Hits The Surf With ‘Big Wave Dave’

We’re used to Nuke The Soup bringing us videos of them hitting the powder – snow skiing – but now we’re treated to a different sporting endeavour, with surf-rock single and matching music video, ‘Big Wave Dave’.

Baltimore based rock veteran Mark Davison fronts the musical collective of Nuke The Soup, accompanied by Brian Simms, Mike Mennell, Chester Thompson, and John Thomakos – all just as dynamic as Davison. Latest single, ‘Big Wave Dave’, is a song as big as all outdoors, and was inspired by a chance encounter on a crowded beach in Delaware. Davison met up with a charismatic local legend longboarder, who came complete with a conch shell and an enviously contagious spirit, and from that wrote a song about a mythical surf figure, who moves through both sand and sea with effortless ease and undeniable purpose.

Fun and easygoing lyrics are supported by the guitar driven vibes and ceaseless drums. It’s easy to imagine setting out on a coastal spin in your VW Kombi, boards strapped to the roof rack, and blasting this out the open windows.

The song is brought to life by director Danny Brown, who captures its carefree spirit in an animated clip. Set on a tropical island, we follow the local golden-haired surf legend as he carves some gnarly shapes, before playing his guitar next to an inviting fire. Dave strolls through life, in search of the next big wave. It’ll remind you of all your favourite surf tunes, and make you want to crack out your board and hit the surf.
