Mark Ciani Releases Official Music Video For ‘Some Kind Of Purgatory’

Following on from his lyric video, and our interview, fearless creative Mark Ciani brings the official music video for his latest single, ‘Some Kind Of Purgatory’.

“We’re not okay but we were before.” ‘Some Kind Of Purgatory’ is the standout track from Mark Ciani’s new album, ‘The Catacombs’, and so deserves a standout official video. Shot at New York’s iconic Coney Island, the clip shows it bathed in a desolate eeriness, far from the usual lively carefree fun the amusement park is best known for. We feel like we are in another dimension, and as Mark roams the empty boardwalk, bereft of its cheerful beachgoers, he meanders aimlessly, looking for an elusive something – anxious, unsteady, disjointedly.

The music video is a collaboration between Mark and filmmaker Tyler Ward of Diagonal Media, and the haunting visual effects give the clip an air of chaos and desperation, with the pain of the narrator distinct, and eminently relatable. There are contrasts – such as Mark’s bright pink suit, which gives an alternative to the heaviness of the narrative, but at the same time, viewers are drawn into the shadowy depths of isolation, and are compelled to consider the deepness of the song’s lyrics. It’s a bittersweet exploration of the complexity of human relationships.
