Deborah Silver & The Count Basie Orchestra Enchant With ‘(I’m Spending) Hanukkah In Santa Monica’

Vibrant and enchanting, Deborah Silver brings her soul-soothing, powerful and sultry voice to ‘(I’m Spending) Hanukkah In Santa Monica’, her new single with The Count Basie Orchestra.

Taken from her latest EP, ‘Swingin’ Thru The Holidays’. this cheerful holiday track is a great introduction to the Mississippi-born artist, whose wish, with her collaborators, is “bring hope to everyone who needs it”, because all can appreciate “more love and lifted spirits” over the holiday season. The single and EP comes ahead of a new album this spring they’ve been working on, ‘Basie Rocks!’, which sees them reimagining rock songs instead as jazz standards.

Deborah’s vocals take centre stage in this jazzy twist on the track originally written by songwriter and satirist, Tom Lehrer. Produced by Charlie Calello, the spectacular arrangement is amplified by the legendary Count Basie Orchestra, whose soulful sound will immerse the listeners. It’s the perfect blend – Lehrer’s witty lyricism along with the orchestra’s upbeat instrumentation, along with Deborah’s ebullient vocals create an infectious masterpiece.

Of course, the music video had to be set in Santa Monica itself, with Deborah hitting the beach, with the lush palm trees, gorgeous golden sands, waves lapping the shore, and the Pier; it’s not Hanukkah as we may know it but it’s perhaps something better. Deborah lights the menorah and spins dreidels, having fun in the California sun, which is brimming with holiday cheer.
