German indie group Zimmer90 catch hold of the age of innocence with new single, ‘feel like we used to’.
Even if we don’t know it, deep down there’s something we’re all missing: that time when things were different, when we could go through life without worrying about the state of the world, when we could just live in the present. With their new single, ‘feel like we used to’, Zimmer90 manage to capture that feeling, with a sweetly comforting vibe, and a ferocious, intense, yet beautiful, arrangement.
If Zimmer90 remind you of Milky Chance, then there’s a reason for that. Zimmer90 have joined forces with award-winning songwriter and co-producer Tobias Kuhn, who has worked with Milky Chance, among others, including Jeremy Loops, and Annett Louisan, and together they have put together a track where every part of it serves as an auditory metaphor for longing: the bass is so vibrant you feel as though you could touch it; the vocals and harmonies are ethereal, feeling deeply personal; the organ softly thrums, almost imperceptibly; and the synths bring it all together like a warm hug.
‘feel like we used to’ follows on from Zimmer90’s single, ‘What Love Is’, whose release this summer saw the duo established as TikTok stars. The danceable track was the perfect introduction to Zimmer90’s warm sounds and angelic vocals, and set the stage for ‘feel like we used to’. The video for ‘What Love Is’ was homemade, the pair playing their instruments together in an apartment studio, and they’ve retained a lot of that intimate vibe for the new song’s clip.
Now however, we’re outdoors, and the members of Zimmer90 are joined by friends as they take an idyllic trip to the woods, having a wonderful time, climbing trees, swimming in the lake, and generally having a good time, just like in the old days. It’s the perfect opportunity to step back and forget the troubles of our present and think about the pleasures of the past.
