Pep Rally bandmates Tommy Joyner and Emily Roane duet on their new single, ‘Roll Around’, and take a deep dive into the cycle of tumultuous relationships.
Some people are just meant to be together, no matter what. They might break up and reconcile over and over, but they know they’re each other’s person. With ‘Roll Around’, Joyner and Roane meet each other vocally, note for note, and superbly complement each other. The song’s lyrics take the form of a long text thread, with their posts capturing the complexity, and often toxic, nature of a love that never seems to end completely. They always come back to each other, knowing full well the challenges and heartache that face them. It’s a relationship that, while intense and passionate, is also filled with conflict and unresolved feelings.
Directed by Amy Roy, the music video for ‘Roll Around’ brings the text messages of the song to life, and in a clever lyric video format (which, incidentally, shares none of the song’s actual lyrics!) takes a deep dive into the chaotic, and often humorous exchanges between the pair.
