Porter Block Channels The Music Of The 1960s With ‘Cruel World’

Porter Block takes a trip back to the 1960s with latest release, ‘Cruel World’, and striking black and white music video.

The newest track from their upcoming LP, ‘Sometimes Sunshine’, ‘Cruel World’ is an ode to a past relationship, that, despite all intentions to make it work, has sadly not. Painfully poignant and relatable to anyone who’s been there, it’s nonetheless given a delicate, stirring treatment, with Porter Block’s customary nostalgic sound.

Written by super producer Andy Paley, ‘Cruel World’ takes its inspiration from the music of The Wrecking Crew, with its orchestral vibe, a band of session musicians from LA whose performances can be found on a range of studio recordings throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Unsurprisingly, Porter Block nailed their sound, no notes needed.

The music video for ‘Cruel World’ takes on the feel of a 1960s variety show, and is shot in stark black and white, directed by Caleb Sherman. It’s the perfect setting for the song, and makes for a thoroughly moving experience altogether.
