Hailing from Prestonburg, Kentucky, in the heart of Appalachia, Hailey Newman discovered her passion for music during an 8th-grade talent show, where, despite her stage fright, she performed Miranda Lambert’s, ‘Mama’s Broken Heart’, to an enthusiastic response from the audience.
While taking inspiration from the likes of country music legends such as Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Luke Combs, and Carly Pearce, Hailey’s music also draws from her personal experiences and the struggles she witnessed growing up. Her aim is to create music that resonates with listeners, and her motto reflects this: “If you have a dream, you should go for it. You hear people say you can’t do things because it’s too high to reach, but if you dedicate yourself to anything and everything you ever wanted to do, you can do it.”
Hailey Newman’s new song, ‘Vibez’, was co-written with Christian Stalnecker, and grabs hold all those nostalgic and bittersweet emotions experienced when looking back on a past romantic interest. Hailey reflects on a small crush from her school days, and explores all the innocence and excitement of what could have been. ‘Vibez’ captures that “sliding doors” feeling, of wondering what paths could have otherwise been taken, while at the same time, with heartfelt lyrics and a catchy melody, blending youthful memories with the emotional complexity of growing up.
The music video for ‘Vibez’ was filmed by Hailey’s sister, set against the stunning background of the Appalachian Mountains, in Pikeville, Kentucky. The nostalgic feeling of the song is captured, while layers of love and acceptance are shown in the shots of several couples, representing different walks of life, in a variety of locations around town. Beautiful visuals complement the song’s themes of innocence and unrequited love, while vibrant shots such as streets filled with colourful umbrellas, reminding viewers of the beauty of love in all its forms, and that we should embrace it, and accept others for who they are.
