Living Life In HVRMNY: We Speak With The Electronic Pop Act About Their Music And Latest Single, ‘Do It Big’

Comprising singer songwriter Robbie Rosen, who made it to the finals of the tenth season of American Idol, singer songwriter Gabrielle Ross (best known as 6 time winner of Amateur Night At The Apollo, as well as this winter’s hit, ‘Dumb’), and songwriter/producer Oshea Hunter, who has worked with Destiny’s Child, Black Rob, and Marc Nelson, among many others, HVRMNY brings with them talent and a musical history that’s pretty much unbeatable. Check out our interview with HVRMNY as we ask them about the nitty gritty of how they Do It Big.

Were specific experiences or emotions that influenced the writing and production process?

Gabrielle: When creating, I typically pull from personal/life experiences.

Oshea: I wanted it to feel anthemic and energetic. Something that could work in an arena,

What message or sensation were you aiming to convey through ‘Do It Big’?

Gabrielle: Confidence, determination, hunger, drive, perseverance, triumph, 100% effort, go big or go home!

Oshea: It’s a call to action. A call for greatness.

What inspired the visual storytelling for ‘Do It Big’?

Gabrielle: The video is made up of all different scenarios where confidence, determination, and perseverance are a must. This video should leave the viewer feeling empowered!

Oshea:  Due to its competitive energy the team decided to lean toward sports imagery.

Did any unexpected challenges or highlights arise during the production process?

Gabrielle: To be honest, no! Our work flow is pretty effortless which is quite refreshing!

Oshea: No. We just try to have fun and enjoy the process.

How do you approach the creative process when crafting songs and conceptualizing music videos?

Gabrielle: We typically start with a message we want to convey and then build the music lyrics and melody upon that.

Oshea: I grew up surrounded by music. But it wasn’t until my teenage years I started  to take it seriously.

What benchmarks or achievements hold the most significance to you in your artistic journey?

Gabrielle: When I was 15 years old I won the adult category super top dog title at the amateur night at the Apollo Theater year long competition. From there I went on to tour the world opening for artists including the incredible Chaka Khan, OAR, Kate Voegele, Tyler Hilton, and singing alongside the legendary Patti LaBelle. Touring is my ultimate highlight. Connecting with new people daily is my favourite!!!

Oshea: Besides my amazing team I would say being part of a diamond-selling album.

Do you plan to continue exploring similar themes or venture into new artistic territories?

Gabrielle: Both! HVRMNY is always here to create any and all music needed. I am also working on “real” good music with a meaningful message for kids. Music children can learn valuable life skills from that their parents can enjoy too.

Oshea: I definitely wanna do both.
