Bombardier Jones knows that in times of trouble, optimism can be a radical act, and that when we dare to hope, we put ourselves on the line; choosing to stand up in the face of misfortune and spread cheer regardless. His new single, ‘Let The Light Shine’, was written in response to a panic attack – even positive people have their shaky moments – and it’s a pure expression of joy in the positive.
Taken from his latest album, ‘Dare To Hope’, itself a dedication to optimism, ‘Let The Light Shine’ is an instant classic, and the definition of upbeat, with its lively melody and catchy refrain. The track reflects the artist’s defiant refusal to give into pessimism, knowing that so doing would drag him into the unswerving clutches of despair.
Working alongside a talented crew of collaborators, including Kevin Barry of Jackson Browne’s band, Rodney Crowell accomplice John Carroll, bassist Ian Espey from Dead Whale Ramblers, and legendary Fairport Convention drummer Dave Mattacks, Bombardier Jones has ensured that ‘Let Your Light Shine’ is both dazzling and danceable, with its sound a gorgeous fusion of RnB, folk-country, new wave, and psychedelia, and is both luminous and brilliant in its entirety.
Of course, such a track requires a brilliant video to match, and the animated clip is everything and then some. Directed by his brother, former Disney feature film animator Michael Cadwallader Jones, the video will restore the spring in the most jaded viewer’s step, with rainbows, bright primary colours, dancers gyrating in bubbles, bringing the look of a sixties show poster come to life. Bombardier Jones is in the video too, as he performs a solo with a wide grin, saturated in colour.
