Kenilworth Katrina Is ‘FashionablyLate’ But That’s Okay

Born in Washington DC, but now based in the Bay Area, Kenilworth Katrina is hungry for success, and with new single, ‘FashionablyLate’, we’re sure she’s well on her way to getting it.

Opening with the line, “April showers bring May flowers, but what the fuck come in June?”, Kenilworth Katrina reminds us that we have to be consistent in putting in the work – we can’t rest on our laurels once the rewards start coming through, because there has to be something following on from that. It’s fine to be ambitious, but you also need to put your nose to the grindstone to make it work.

With her newest single, ‘FashionablyLate’, Kenilworth Katrina is impatient and it shows. She’s hungry for success and packs in all her ideas in a mere two and a half minutes. She’s had a taste of it all, but she wants more, and she’s got the talent and to overcome any and all obstacles in her way. This is reflected in her flow; she packs the bars in against a slightly less fast paced rhythm track, showing just how much she wants the world to catch up with her.

‘FashionablyLate’ is paired with an animated video, created by New York City animation house, Negative Kitty. The company had a contest this year to find an up and coming artist they could make a clip for, and Kenilworth Katrina won. Their video for her is a reflection of both the song’s themes and Kenilworth’s leftfield sense of humour, and shows her as a cartoon avatar, who’s just as energetic, impertinent, and tough as the real thing: it’s impossible not to root for her. She’s stuck in traffic by the beach when she’s on her way to a gig, but there’s stuff in the way. Meanwhile, the wind blows away her scarf. At the same time however, she’s got a few tricks up her sleeve, and plenty of skills, so when she puts them all into practice, she gets what she wants and where she wants to be.
