Jelani Lateef Returns With The Sharp Lyricism Of ‘Show You’

Jelani Lateef’s second release today, ‘Show You’, sees him lay some more thoughtful lines, this time over a more soulful track.

His sharp lyricism, which was showcased in ‘Can’t Stop Now’, continues to shine in ‘Show You’, and lines such as “I put it on these nitwits, they monitor every step like a fitbit” paint aural pictures that you can visualise with your mind’s eye. It’s poetry and prose, rolled into one, and the gorgeous melodies backing his rhymes are just as much a reason to listen as to Jelani’s powerful words.

‘Show You’ is pretty much an autobiography for Jelani. He outlines what he’s gone through in life, and what he’s aiming for. The accompanying music video is simple yet direct, the artist is assertive without being confrontational, spitting his bars in an otherwise empty warehouse, save for some judicious lighting. From time to time we see interspersed scenes from every day life, doing the accounts, driving around town. Jelani shows us he’s just like us, and so we can achieve our dreams too, just like him.
