Yesterday, British rock band You Me At Six announced that their most recent album, ‘Truth Decay’, would be getting a unique treatment akin to no other; a limited edition zoetrope vinyl disc release, with 2,000 copies printed for sale. The album has received critical acclaim since its release 6 months ago, and has performed exceptionally well on British charts, reaching #4 in the UK.
The Surrey rock outfit formed nearly 2 decades ago, and have had a rocky trajectory up and down the charts, with ‘Cavalier Youth’ (2014) and ‘Suckapunch’ (2021) both topping the English and Scottish charts. Their eight-album discography has received critical acclaim and several awards, such as ‘Best British Band’ at the 2011 Kerrang! Awards, and they have toured with bands like Bring Me The Horizon, Fall Out Boy and Thirty Seconds to Mars. You Me At Six aren’t afraid to experiment, switching styles between albums, going from pop-punk to alt-rock to pop-rock – their experimentalism isn’t limited to music, either, and they haven’t been afraid of toying with new ideas in the past – this new zoetrope vinyl is just a snippet of the band’s continuous ventures into new territory.
As for the album itself, it’s a departure from tradition for You Me At Six, transitioning from pop rock to a style more akin to emo rock. ‘Truth Decay’ is another brilliant piece, and the band’s first emo rock album (so far). Discussing more emotional topics while still maintaining the same brilliant rock style and instrumentation of their past albums, and the experimentalism of ‘Suckapunch’, the new album is a fusion of genres and past works that still distinctively sounds like You Me At Six in the end.
