Joe West Releases Visual Banger For New Rap Single, ‘I’m Him’

Within seconds of starting to watch the music video for ‘I’m Him’, by Joe West, you’ll know why he calls it a “visual banger”.

Directed by Reilly Balcom, the video is the perfect accompaniment to the track, which sees West rap with authority and absolute precision, while the instrumentals are compelling, and the percussion is thunderous. The video comprises one sequence after another, each more fantastic and memorable than the last. All the while, Joe West is completely at ease, exuding confidence and charisma, chewing up each scene with a star quality that many could only dream of.

Joe West is a sharp and clever lyricist whose vocals are on point. He has a gift for a seemingly effortless turn of phrase, and as he raps in ‘I’m Him’, he is determined to re-establish the centre for the genre to where it all first began – in the northern neighbourhoods of NYC.

The clip for ‘I’m Him’ makes New York City look like the beautiful lady it truly is. The leafy streets of Harlem with her tall stoops, striking brownstones, basketball courts, and graffiti-daubed intersections should sell the song by themselves. Joe West comes in with his enthusiastic and exuberant rap, and, thanks to scenes cleverly choreographed by Balcom, not a single moment goes to waste, whether it be a group of people nodding their heads in unison, or Joe spitting verses through a magnifying glass.
