Out now, ‘Itsy Bitsy Bikini’ is the new single from pop artist, Ashleigh Harley. The song is Ashleigh’s own spin on the classic track, bringing a familiar summer feeling and giving it a much deeper purpose.
Released yesterday, the 12th of August, ‘Itsy Bitsy Bikini’ is available to stream and download here.
Fans are encouraged to join Ashleigh Harley on the 22nd of August, as she joins 60s legend Brian Hyland – the original singer of the song – in a special live performance of ‘Itsy Bitsy Bikini’ outside Number 10 Downing Street, London, as part of the Save Our Lives campaign for young people living with terminal, chronic, and rare conditions.
The #SaveOurLives march to 10 Downing Street will form a part of the upcoming documentary, ‘The Dark Horse’.
Ashleigh suffered a catastrophic 10-year delay in diagnosing her Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), leaving her unable to eat due to severe complications of re-feeding syndrome from the gut complications of Ehlers Danlos – gastroparesis, she was discharged from the hospital with a 15% survival rate​, her consultant giving her just six months to live. At the same time, the consultant told Ashleigh’s Mum if she wanted change she should use Ashleigh’s death to lobby the PM.
Against all medical odds, Ashleigh survived.
​While she had been in hospital, Ashleigh wrote songs to say goodbye to her family, and, in celebration of what was left of her life, she wrote an updated version of the UK summer classic, ‘Itsy Bitsy Bikini’.
The World Health Organization says that millions of deaths each year are linked to conditions that could be prevented, treated, or better managed with timely access to quality healthcare. Through her music, Ashleigh Harley hopes to help to change this reality. With support from Wise Music Group and Universal Music through a charity licence, proceeds from ‘Itsy Bitsy Bikini’ will help support others, while the track itself brings a reminder that even difficult journeys can still have moments of laughter, celebration, and joy.
Alongside the release of ‘Itsy Bitsy Bikini’, an Oscar winning team have put together a documentary film, ‘The Dark Horse’, set for screening at London’s O2 and other movie releases soon. You can find out more about ‘The Dark Horse’ here.
