The Rocket Summer Rises To The Challenge With New Indie-Pop Single And Video, ‘M4U’

‘M4U’, the latest single and video from ‘SHADOWKASTERS’, his 8th studio album, sees The Rocket Summer take a wild ride into a range of genres that you can’t quite pin down, but you’ll love nonetheless. Not exactly pop, not exactly rock – there’s also hip hop and industrial among many others to choose from. All in all, The Rocket Summer has made a style of his very own, ensuring that no matter what you’re into, you’re going to love his sound.

In three and a half minutes The Rocket Summer, real name Bryce Avary, takes the listener on a journey that they won’t want to return from. Opening with a seductive verse, sensuous and sleek, he moves into a thumping chorus, then a rap chanted against bass, synths, and the punkest of punk guitars. All the while, Avary’s vocals are magnificent, magnetic and pleasing.

The music video for ‘M4U’, directed by Nicky Parks, features footage that was filmed by Avary himself, while he was in the studio. Pixelated and dreamy, it’s beautifully warped and completely fitting for the song. There’s also a female dancer, whose body is obscured by the special effects, transulucent and ethereal. Musical instruments, such as a double-decker Model D Mini Moog, drums, and a guitar, all feature – and it’s worth noting that The Rocket Summer plays them all himself, and he does all the production and mixing too.
