Released on the 7th of August, ‘Here Last Chance’ is the latest single from Duane Hoover, taken from his new album, ‘Sharade Parade’.
Duane Hoover’s ‘Her Last Chance’ sees singer songwriter once more channel the glam grooves of the 70s, such as Syd Barrett, and Marc Bolan, while being directly inspired by ‘The White Album’, by The Beatles.
Speaking of that album’s infleunce, Hoover said,
“That album showed me you could have all kinds of difÂferÂent soundÂing songs on the same record. That idea really stuck with me”.
‘Her Last Chance’ is musically light and airy, Hoover’s vocals suggesting fun and merriment, set against jangly guitars and a jolly drum and percussion rhythm. The lyrics however are vaguely threatening, as the narrator relates the story of a lost opportunity for romance – but it’s not clear which one of the pair is the one who missed out – he says it was her last chance, and he has difficulty in caring about the whole situation; one can’t help but wonder however if he might be protesting a little bit too much.
‘Sharade Parade’ was recorded in the main in Hoover’s home studio, before finishing at New Jersey’s Sonic Boom Recording Studio, the end result being an album that skilfully manages to balance both the rawness of home recording with professional production. While he’s clearly still taking his inspiration for his music from the British Invasion artists and their successors in the Glam Rock world, he’s now fully focussed on original material, rather than including covers, as on previous album, ‘Wayward Path’.
