Echezona Is The Distillation Of Melting-Pot USA With New Rap Single, ‘TMH’

Genre-transcending artist Echezona was born to Nigerian parents in blue-collar Boston, and spent his childhood at inner-city Boys & Girls Clubs. He took the bus to public school in higher income areas, and returned home to his Igbo culture. On the one hand he was listening to Kanye and Jay-Z, while on the other he was listening with his family to the music legends of Nigeria, such as Fela Kuti, and Eddie Quansa. Meanwhile he sang tenor in the church choir, while rapping it freestyle on the school playground. All this has informed his music, making it the most intelligent, independent, and all-inclusive Afro-infused hip-hop you’ll have heard in years.

Echezona got his start during the Covid-19 pandemic, remotely recording his debut Koma Toast single, ‘Galileo’, with producer JPRiZM. The indie hit was picked up by EA Sports, and featured on NBA 2K21. Once started, he was never going to stop, and with new single, ‘TMH’, Echezona is out to make a statement.

The video for ‘TMH’ – or rather, the “Official Infomercial” – sees Echezona introducing us to his many faces: from public speaker, knowing everything about the operations of business; to the city kid, worldly wise with his real talk; to the conscious artist, self-reflective, and considerate. The clip sees him appearing alongside producer JPRiZM and a crew of his friends, and he calls on them to drop the crap and instead, have real chat. There’s plenty of swagger and a whole lot of humour, as it tackles the big issues while spitting out multi-faceted bars like, “How you gonna tell ME about ME?” Real Talk.
