Sometimes a song takes a while to be perfected, and that’s certainly the case with ‘A Different Light’, the latest release from Tom Keifer and #Keiferband. Written a decade ago by Tom and Savannah Keifer, it’s a brilliant example of the saying, “Good music doesn’t have an expiration date”, as it sounds as fresh and timeless as if it was penned this morning.
Fans have long known the track, it was originally released on Keifer’s 2013 album, ‘The Way Life Goes’. But now it’s been given a new lease on life and a brand new music video, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of #keiferband, and Keifer’s debut solo release.
Produced and edited by Joshua Smith, the new video features footage recorded by fans on that first year on tour – way back in 2013 – and right through to their most recent tour dates last year. The clip opens with black and white shots of people going through turmoil and trouble, but as Keifer’s vocals ring through, colours fill the clip we are shown their troubles roll away, and they are replaced by happy, smiling faces. It only takes a minute for everything to change, and both anthem and video reveal things in a different light. The footage from fans of concerts over the years adds an extra poignancy to an already moving clip.
Speaking about the video and song, Tom Keifer said,
“‘A Different Light”s lyric really struck a chord with people and we’ve had countless requests since its release for a music video. The fans have been right there with us over this ten year journey capturing show after show on their phones. Including the live vids they shot in the different light music video is our way of expressing gratitude and making them part of the ten year anniversary.”
Before striking out on his own with #keiferband, Tom Keifer was best known as the singer/songwriter, guitarist, and front man of heavy metal band, Cinderella. It’s not many who are able to turn their backs on a successful career with a band, especially one that has sold 15 million records worldwide. But nonetheless, Tom Keifer and the rest of #keiferband, his wife Savannah, Tony Higbee, Billy Mercer, Jarred Pope, Kory Myers, and Tanya Davis, have had incredible success over the past 10 years, including two highly revered albums, ‘The Way Life Goes’ (2013) and ‘Rise’ (2019).
