Brian Keith Releases New Country Music Single And Video, ‘So Long Emily’

Picture an airfield outside Houston, Texas. An engineer from Los Alamos, who flies military-grade RC planes, is rehearsing harmonies for a show he’s about to perform at the local saloon. The engineer is Brian Keith, and in the early 2000s, he formed Brian Keith and the Sons of Buck, a country and western group who sang whip-sharp harmonies in tribute to local fiddle extraordinaire and World War Two hero, Buck Sloan.

Since that time, the group has released several albums, filled with original songs from top Nashville writers, that they’ve handpicked according to Keith’s ear for music. His scientific mind works just as well for music as it does for aeroplanes, and he’s studied the sound of the likes of George Strait, Alan Jackson, Clint Black, and Garth Brooks, in order to finely tune his own.

Keith’s ear for detail ensures each song is arranged in such a manner to spring new life into it, and with production by the likes of Vince Gill, each piece is a masterpiece in every way.

Keith’s newest single, ‘So Long Emily’, written by Jeff Penning and Michael Lunn, is a ballad dedicated to the one who got away. Keith drawls out his longing over a consistent drum rhythm, while expert harmonies and flourishing fiddle help to build the emotion. It’s nostalgic while being as modern as Taylor Swift; relatable for both young and old to enjoy.

The music video is light-hearted, directed by Jaded Polygon (Ryan Keith, Chad Fontenot, and Ross Carter), and sees the singer disembark from a private jet in order to reunite with his one true love – a black 1979 Trans Am named – what else, but Emily. There’s an element of behind the scenes in the clip as we see the camera crew lining up shots, and Brian Keith is the epitome of a Texan country music artist, from his boots to his massive belt buckle holding up his blue Levis, right up to his 10 gallon hat. There’s some joy mixed in with the melancholy in the song, and it’s enough for you to want to cry happy tears as you see Keith and his car driving off into the sunset.
