Their song might be called ‘Negative’ but La Need Machine are anything but as they rock straight out of the blocks with their positive message.
Growing up in Seattle where they were able to draw from an incredible music heritage, La Need Machine developed a unique but classic North-West sound and ethic, and new song ‘Negative’ is a rocking good track. Jangling guitars and pounding drums provide the perfect backing for Dawn’s powerful vocals, supported by Carly on BVs.
The music video for ‘Negative’ sees La Need Machine rocking it out on the stage, interspersed with scenes of people being argumentative. The band sings of a new horizon, while at the same time despairing at those who just want to be rich and take everything from everyone else without giving anything back in return. We see it the continuing invasion by Russia of Ukraine, and the impact it’s had on that country, as well as the knock-on effect on the rest of the world. We see it in Iran where the occupying dictatorship has lorded over the people for the past 43 years. We see it on a digital level, with Elon Musk’s purchase of and hell-bent destruction of Twitter. Life is so much more than “winning” and never being wrong and being all out to make more money than everyone else. If we all work together, we can reach the new horizons and live in peace and harmony.
Bands like La Need Machine are doing their best to achieve this peace.
The group, who say they like to mix it up from a performance perspective, comprises 8 core musicians, with several others who join in from time to time. The entire basis of their band is a Community-Support ethic, and they donate significant amounts of the proceeds of videos and streams to charities that help people in their own community, and around the world. With vocalist, Dawn, a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, and Al, Tim, Ken, and Carly having mental illness families, these are significant influences in their charity choices. Additionally, their band member Art is a Ukrainian citizen, currently living in Kyiv. Although his house was destroyed by the Russian army, he still maintains a positive outlook and keeps playing music.
The charities currently supported by La Need Machine are:
- The Trevor Project
