Alicia G is a force to be reckoned with, following up her recent release, ‘Shake Down’ mere weeks later with her new single, ‘GUM’.
While ‘Shake Down’ was a more pop country track, ‘GUM’ sees the talented artist check out the hip-hop scene in a juicy pop crossover.
The music video sees Alicia G channeling her very best Xtina and Gwen Stefani, as she lays down her bars. To start with, she’s playing at the ballpark by herself, but then, it’s as if the gum gives her an idea, and next shot she’s hanging out with her homegirls, all chewing their Juicyfruit and twerking with the best of them. You could even say she knocks it right out of the park!
Alicia G splits her time between being a player dressed in pink and white, and being the umpire – calling the strikes and outs. The refrain, “I’m chewing my gum like I’ve got a fat bum / I’m popping my gum like I’ve got a fat bum” is as simplistic as it is catchy, and laid over the deep bass rhythms it feels like Alicia G is onto yet another winner.
