Singer songwriter Caesar Roosevelt brings a vintage pop sound to the 13 tracks of his debut album, ‘Lonely Hours’, which is out now, and can be streamed and downloaded here.
Caesar Roosevelt is the performance name of Sangam Kumar Tirkey, who’s based in Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. He didn’t come from a musical family, but started writing poetry at a young age, which quickly became a love of music, which grew into him performing in clubs, at the age of 17, under the name Voice Sangam.
‘Lonely Hours’ is a personal journey exploring the feelings Caesar had, and still has, for his first love, who sadly took their own life. The artist describes the writing and recording process of the album as a very intense experience, as he sings about toxic relationships, as well as his own sexual exploration. At the same time it proved to be a healing process, with ‘Lonely Hours’ putting everything on the table, and leaving his emotions and feelings bare and exposed.
The persona of Caesar Roosevelt serves for the artist as a cathartic way to release songs about sex, heartbreaks, heartaches, and toxic relationships; his raw vocals and heart-felt lyrics are elegantly supported by electronic-pop instrumentals.
While the subject matter has been difficult for Caesar Roosevelt, the end result is an album which is easy to listen to and absorb. Several songs would lend themselves quite well to remixing, such as the upbeat ‘Home’, and ethereal song, ‘Wild’, and it would be a shame if this isn’t realised, as they would make awesome club tracks.
‘Lonely Hours’ is out now. You can find out more about Caesar Roosevelt online on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music. Watch the album trailer below:
