Alicia G gives us a festive number for her latest single, ‘You’re My Favorite Holiday’. A departure from her usual dance-rap sound, the new track has a retro sound reminiscent of the classic Christmas songs of yore.
The video for ‘You’re My Favorite Holiday’ also perfectly replicates the classic festive films of the past, with a cottage in the woods, covered in powdery snow, and filled with tall Christmas trees decorated with sparkling ornaments and presents, wrapped and tied up in bows, waiting for happy recipients. The traditional seasonal colour palette is adhered to as well – whites, greens, fire-truck reds, and glittering silver and gold. Meanwhile, Buffalo pop artist and DJ Alicia G is the personification of the Christmas spirit – serving as both host and home owner, she opens the door and shows us in for the most wonderful time of the year.
Alicia G is front and centre, shining brighter than the most sparkly tinsel on the tree. She protects herself from the cold outdoors by way of a plush coat, and indoors dons a warm flannel shirt for her tree-trimming activities. Later, when she puts on an elegant pink party dress, she makes us feel that ‘You’re My Favorite Holiday’ could well become our new favourite holiday song.
