From New Britain, Connecticut, south west of Hartford, Millionz Of Bar$ knows he’s from a region that doesn’t automatically come up when you think about hip-hop music. But the north east of the USA has its own long tradition of lyricism, and his music certainly reflect that. It helps too that he’s got roots in urban New Jersey, as well, and he’s also managed to fully absorb the hip-hop traditions of New York City and Philadelphia.
So, given all that, when Millionz Of Bar$ steps up to the mic in his new single, ‘Her Favorite’, everyone pays attention. A bouncy, yet hard-hitting track, it’s designed to get everyone up on the dancefloor, whether that be a house-party or the club. ‘Her Favorite’ is Millionz Of Bar$’ declaration of arrival, and the charismatic emcee takes hedonism very seriously, and knows he’s got a responsibility to not just get the fun started, but to make sure it keeps going.
He’s joined by rapper and singer Kent Jones, from Tallahassee, Florida, whose 2016 smash ‘Don’t Mind’ was certified double platinum, and while Jones handles the hook, Millionz Of Bar$ shreds the verses; both show their skill and versality and Millionz Of Bar$ certainly lives up to his name.
The video that comes with the single, by Harold Shipley, is both dazzling and energetic, and that should come as no surprise, given he’s not just a man with a camera, but also a Staten Island entrepreneur and the founder of the GPMG label, an upstart hip-hop imprint that specialises in amplifying the voices of dedicated young rappers. He instantly recognised Millionz Of Bar$ as a star, and in his clip he shows off that magnetism. Millionz Of Bar$’s rhymes and music show the same wit and swagger and immediacy, and his camera presence is similarly commanding. In the clip, he’s as fresh as they come, completely in control as he’s surrounded by beautiful women, and set to rise up and take his place on the list of the world’s most exciting rappers.
