Taken from her 2020 album, Shades of Love, ‘My Cherie Amour’ is Zoe Scott’s take on the Stevie Wonder classic, released just in time for Valentine’s Day.
The video accompanying the cover is one of thirteen in Scott’s Wave of Love series, a collection of choreographed videos intended to support professional dancers who were put out of work by the pandemic. Flaminia Ianno and Andrea De Angelis, two of the professional dancers affected by loss of work, are featured in the video for ‘My Cherie Amour’, which is set in sunny Rome.
“I grew up singing My Cherie Amour as a young girl. It is one of my all-time favorite songs and I loved the idea of being a My Cherie Amour one day,” – Zoe Scott
This personal connection to the song is something which is apparent in Scott’s delivery, every line sung with care and feeling. The reworking of the song is an inspired choice, as if Stevie was always supposed to be a jazzy number.
From the cinematic-style opening, to the very end, the connection between the two dancers in the video is palpable and serves the song well, adding to the romance and serenity of the story. The choreography is intercut with shots of the couple wandering the streets of Rome in the sunshine. The effect is a song which is fully realised, the visual elements lining up perfectly with the song itself to create a triumphant release from Ms. Scott.
