Nas – ‘Replace Me’

Nas has been a leading rap voice in New York since the 1990s, and a master wordsmith at that. Entrepreneur and co-founder of Mass Appeal Records, Nas has worked with all the greats, such as Big Sean, as well as up and coming artists such as Houston-based rapper, Don Toliver, who’s signed to Travis Scott’s label, Cactus Jack.

His latest single, ‘Replace Me’, comes with a collage style music video, directed by Christian Sutton. The above three mentioned, Nas, Don Toliver, and Big Sean, all feature in the clip, which shows a woman navigating her internal struggle over a love she can’t replace. It’s a tender love story, a journey of romance, with our three leading men coming alive in every photograph. In a scrapbook style rendition, we see them getting intimate with their ladies, or having a night out – all the while we’re reminded that they’re unparalleled in their field. Don Toliver takes front and centre when he’s pouring his heart out, Big Sean spits pure ballads while surrounded by bouquets, and Nas stares at the camera, asserting his dominance, all while he’s sweet talking a girl sitting on his lap.

The three have a close bond behind the scenes, and this shows in the video, the lyrics striking a chord with their honesty, in particular when Big Sean tells it like it is, and says, “I’m not your ex, I’m your ecstasy”. The three are united and undefeated; nobody’s gonna challenge them on that anyway, anytime soon.
