Jay Som – ‘Tenderness’

Recording as Jay Som since 2015, Melina Duterte creates a world of shy, swirling, intimate sound with her music. Her latest release, ‘Tenderness’, is released from her latest album, ‘Anak Ko’.

Originally from the Bay Area but now based in Los Angeles, ‘Anak Ko’ came to Jay Som during a week long retreat to Joshua Tree. On her return she recorded it in her home studio, also producing, engineering, and mixing the album herself.

Jay Som takes her inspiration from 80s artists such as Prefab Sprout, Cocteau Twins, and The Cure, and the first track from the album, ‘Tenderness’, is as gentle and delicate as the title would lead you to believe. All about falling in love and wanting to find something real, the video shows the singer and her band at what appears to be a 1980s prom, with the sequins, glitter, and metallic outfits to match. It’s a beautiful clip with a gorgeous song, and producer and director Weird Life Films makes the viewer feel as though they were right there on the dance floor.
