A trio which includes married collaborators, Julie and Jason Shields, as well as drummer, Kevin Trevino, The Capsules world is one where atmosphere, melody and visual art cannot be separated from the music itself. New single, ‘Full Moon Factory’, released on the 25th of September, takes listeners into their world, along with a music video that’s quite fitting for the weeks leading up to Halloween.
With The Capsules’ previous single, ‘Machines’, the current flowed through their instruments, amplifiers, and pedals, and so on. Now with ‘Full Moon Factory’, however, electricity takes on a more human meaning, as it passes between people, as Julie sings,
“They say we’re all electric / I’d like to think it’s true / A never-ending current / That flows through me and you”
The image she paints is one of something invisible; something that passes between people that somehow charges up the night and atmosphere all around them. Drummer Kevin Trevino gives the feeling form by carving a rhythm on his drums, while Julie’s vocals float above it, and the remaining instrumentals are spacious and melodic, pulling in the listener while moving the song forward.
The music video for ‘Full Moon Factory’, hand drawn and animated by Miranda Parkin, who additionally directed it alongside The Capsules, sees the song pushed even deeper into the strange world of moonlit night that the lyrics have established. It’s eerily playful, featuring images of the bandmembers themselves as characters in an adventure that has its inspiration in classic horror films. It’s very fitting in the lead-up to Halloween.
