Brought together by Rob Aster and iDreamology, Ryan Collins and Ty Taylor recently combined their talents on ‘The Madness‘, a song commemorating the frenzy of basketball’s “March Madness”. We spoke with the pair about their motivations and what’s coming up next.
What made this the right time to work together on ‘The Madness’?
Things just lined up perfectly. I had already made the rough backing track and Rob Aster came to me with a concept and direction for the song. Ty Taylor was already in the process of working on another iDreamology project called ‘Hear the Call’, which I heard and immediately became a fan of. We realized Ty had the perfect soul and voice for what we were trying to create. Our team also makes a lot of music for sync licensing and with the NCAA March Madness tournament just around the corner, it was excellent timing for a song called ‘The Madness’.
Ryan, how do you decide which direction to take when starting a new track?
I chase emotion mostly when writing music. I want to resonate with the audience. Not all people share the gift of making music, but they do share similar emotions and commonalities in life. Whether deep or surface level, life is better with a soundtrack.
How did the March Madness theme shape the feel of the track?
The energy of the track fit well with the energy and excitement surrounding the NCAA March Madness tournament.Â
How did you build the energy and momentum in the song?
The track was upbeat from the start, but when the horns and vocals were added, it really took the energy to another level.
What was the process like working with Rob Aster and the RRHOT/iDreamology team?
We’ve been working together closely for about the last year and a half. I enjoy being part of a team with so many talented and driven individuals.Â
What was the experience like filming the video with a live performance feel?
We didn’t have to film anything thanks to modern technology and Eli Lev of Lev Studios, who’s a major part of the iDreamology team. Rob came up with the live performance concept and storyline, Ty Taylor and I had some input on the characters, and Eli brought it to life magnificently.Â
What led to the anime-style visuals in the video?
iDreamology has been putting out a mix of traditional music videos as well as anime-style videos, and our YouTube channel has been growing like crazy over the past year. Some of the same anime characters are used in many of the recent video releases, and viewers can watch an underlying story about those characters with each new release.
How do you see this project expanding going forward?
This project has been well received both online and in the sync world thus far, so I hope to see it keep expanding in both areas.
What do you hope people take away after hearing and seeing ‘The Madness’?
I hope that they can get a small and enjoyable reprieve from whatever may be going on in their lives at that moment or add a boost to their energy and mood.
