Waves_On_Waves x Crimewave x Waves On Waves After Dark Have Got Us ‘Started Catching Feelings’ With New Retro Single

Waves_On_Waves bring a retro vibe to their new single, ‘Started Catching Feelings’, and a music video shot in black and white at Los Angeles’ iconic Griffith Observatory.

Wielding nostalgia like a weapon, Waves_On_Waves weave together inspiration that’s been accumulated over decades of musical exploration and sonic curiosity. Frontman Chris Sevier’s discography has been built during this time, with little heed paid to genres or trends, but rather sounds he’s enjoyed. He started out as a top-line vocalist for EDM artists, before later becoming a producer at a Nashville studio. Now he’s making his own music, a dream which saw him relocate to Los Angeles in 2021, immersing himself in that city’s goth underbelly, and inspiring tender acoustic ballads, cinematic rock anthems, and everything in between.

‘Started Catching Feelings’ feels like a hidden gem discovered at an underground party. It’s deeply dramatic and hugely infectious, stirring the soul at the same time as it moves the body, the perfect addition to a Halloween playlist with all its dark and dangerous moodiness. Crimewave and Waves On Waves After Dark, Waves_On_Waves dives deep into a goth wonderland, and along the way they unravel an all too familiar tale about the dangerous edge of love; when a casual fling threatens to become something much more.

With crisp electronic percussion, smooth minor chords, and hypnotic synths, ‘Started Catching Feelings’ brings together a moody atmosphere that’s almost hypnotic. The melody is fully retro, with hints of the likes of Depeche Mode and their peers, while at the same time, lyrically very much of today, with its modern vernacular.

The song itself feels very LA, and so demands an iconic LA location for its music video. What better than Griffith Observatory, from where one can see the entire City Of Angels spreading out below its balconies. Shots of Sevier spilling out his confessions at the observatory are interspersed with scenes of Les Nuby on drums, and haunting clips of stark woods, amping up the vibes of the danger that’s to be found when attraction flips over to love.
