Sweet As Candy: Janet Devlin Serves Up Playful Single Ahead Of Deluxe Album

Country’s rising star Janet Devlin returns with ‘Candy’, a sweet-as-sugar track that marks the next chapter in her forthcoming deluxe album, ‘Emotional Rodeo’. Musically cinematic and lyrically razor-sharp, the song showcases her signature blend of traditional country with a playful modern twist, only heightening anticipation for the album’s release.

Backed by twinkling fiddles and a jig-worthy chorus, ‘Candy’ takes a refreshing detour from the rock-leaning sound of her recent single ‘Houston’, balancing euphoric highs with a laid-back Americana twang.

As with much of her discography, the track offers more than ear-pleasing hooks – it comes with a taboo topic. Inspired by a tale of a ‘sugar baby’ actually falling head-over-heels in love with a “sugar daddy” ‘Candy’ plays like a cheeky sequel to the original album’s hoedown favourite ‘Daddy’, flipping the stereotype with a wink.

Visually, Devlin leans into the satire: on the single cover and accompanying photos, she channels retro housewife chic – giant rollers in her hair, a baby on her hip, and a slinky black dress as she struts through a lavish mansion.

Proving herself not just a country-rock master but a songwriter of growing wit, charm, and poise, ‘Candy’ is the delicious icing on the cake ahead of ‘Not My First Emotional Rodeo’, due out September 26th.

Pre-save ‘Candy’ here. You can catch Janet Devlin live at Colours, Hoxton on the 16th of October.
