Crystal Starr Turns Poison Into Positivity With ‘DANNY’

Crystal Starr has a powerhouse voice and a sharp vision for everything she does, no less so than her new single, ‘DANNY’.

A track that could serve as the theme song for any and every yes woman who has outgrown a maybe man, ‘DANNY’ may have been inspired by a real life heartbreak, but Crystal Starr turns poison into positivity with this anthem of independence.

While her previous release, ‘Part Time Lover’, was filled to the brim with soulful reflection, ‘DANNY’ is packed full of synth pop that knocks down any obstacles in her way. Crystal Starr takes hold of the drama, style, and above all else, empowerment, that was part and parcel of those who went before her – Madonna, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston – and makes it her very own with a boldness that is as catchy as it is brazen.

Lyrics such as, “Danny, do you want me, do you want me, tell me what you want” challenge the person in question, and will remain in your head long after the end of the song, and perhaps even bringing them into your own life, addressing any maybe men you may know.

The music video for ‘DANNY’ takes a fantastically cinematic trip that is part ancient mythology and part disco imagination. Crystal Starr is bedecked in rhinestone covered costumes, which have been custom-designed by her mother no less, giving a visual feast that Cleopatra would die for. Crystal not only styled the clip, she also directed, lit, and cast the video, producing an iconic feast for the eyes that bigger budgets couldn’t even manage. Crystal Starr might seem larger than life, but she’s certainly got the goods and ideas to match.
