A rising star in the world of R&B and neo-soul, Atlanta artist Aliza Li, bears her soul to the world with her new single and music video, ‘Healing’.
A dedicated “superfan” of music, Aliza has always found a peaceful refuge in that art, and during the toughest of times she’s turned to songwriting as therapy. However, it wasn’t until she moved to Atlanta seven years ago that she felt inspired to take what had previously merely been a hobby, and instead use her music for a greater purpose.
Aliza Li’s vocals are lush and dreamy, and set against the soulful instrumentals, she is able to channel the natural introspection of her personality into melodies that cathartically spirit listeners away, the intimate details and poignant feelings immediately resonant. Aliza’s songs are comforting and nurturing, while she embarks on a journey of self-discovery, courageously speaking her truth, no matter the roller-coaster nature it might have sometimes.
New single, ‘Healing’, is a melodic masterpiece, and it addresses something we all long for, but often struggle to move towards. Aliza knows it all too well, but she’s now no longer afraid to face her vulnerabilities. The track is rooted in her desire for growth, and shines the spotlight on her personal battle with anxiety. With fuzzy basslines, and gorgeous harmonies, Aliza’s voice is soothing, while somehow feeling as if she’s slipping into darkness, fighting desperately to get back to the light.
The music video for ‘Healing’ takes this a step further, with its candlelit setting giving it an eerie vibe. Aliza wanders from room to room, her palpable pain is seen in her face, as she tries to flee the monsters that forever lurk behind her. Dancers in white follow her closely, a physical embodiment of the suffocating nature of anxiety. As the visual unfolds, however, there is an undertone of hope, culminating in the final scene, where she stops running, and faces up to her anxiety, rather than continuing to fight it.
