The son of a pastor and founder of a ministry in Houston, Texas, King Koro has been driven by passion and guided by faith all his life, and this is evident in his music as well as every other aspect. With new single, ‘Hopeless Romantic’, we see that includes choosing a life partner.
King Koro started out making songs using his Mom’s laptop, and playing drums in Church, while his father played the organ. He lost his way as a teen, where he trod a dangerous path, leading to being kicked out of home, and spending nearly five years out on the streets of Chicago. Nonetheless, his faith stood by him the whole time, and, with a calling and a purpose that was too powerful to ignore, he found his way back to Houston, and back to ministry and music.
King Koro’s upcoming album, ‘KORONATION’, sees him lay everything out on the table. Each track serves as a chapter in his live, examining his struggles, his redemption, and his unwavering optimism. Above all else is his faith, and encouraging the world to live their truth, as he does, while pursuing the pure love and blessings that come through God.
‘Hopeless Romantic’ is about finding a partner who is on the same plane in terms of life goals, and his signature style is allowed to shine through every beat, with snappy rhythm pulses with just the right energy. Silky smooth verses are heartfelt and sincere, as they celebrate the beauty of a love that’s “not tainted by trauma”, but instead, brings “peace with no drama”.
Likewise, the music video, co-directed by Will Thomas and Christina Jackson, sees Koro turn away from the sort of overly sensual message that usually accompanies R&B and rap tracks, and instead offering a clip that is both refreshing and fun.
Initially the video feels like some sort of YouTube or TikTok challenge, with King Koro playing a “pop the balloon” game, in order to find love. Soon however it’s revealed that he’s not just looking for a fleeting relationship, he’s searching for the real deal, and a partner who is his equal in comfort, life, and faith. Soon enough, one woman is left with her balloon still un-popped, and the pair set off on their lifetime adventure, with genuine affection apparent even on screen, and showing how commitment and trust can turn love into something special. The scenes are warm and romantic, while never becoming cliched, while interspersed by clips of striking choreography and tender moments. It’s upbeat and fun, and sets the stage for what King Koro has to offer next.
